1960 Harley-Davidson FL Duo Glide Panhead
This is a beauty in red, white and chrome.
- Some machines are simply too precious to ride: the odometer read a tiny 121 miles back in May 2008, when it was acquired by NZ Classic Motorcycles
- This model comes complete with white, hard shell panniers and was fully restored to standard
- The overhead-valve, V-twin FL series was first introduced to the Harley-Davidson line-up back in 1941. Until 1948, the bike featured the Knucklehead engine, but that year this was superseded by the Panhead (a nod to its chrome-plated valve covers, which resembled inverted pans)
- That year also saw the introduction of Hydra-Glide hydraulic telescopic front forks, with seven inches of travel: this became the official model designation a handful of years later, in 1952. The arrival of hydraulically-damped, swinging-arm rear suspension in 1958 saw the FL Panhead renamed and remarketed and the Duo Glide.
