Burt Munro Challenge 2021: see our highlights

15th February 2021

Our team had a ball meeting visitors from near and far during this year’s Burt Munro Challenge.

With plenty of action happening here at Classic Motorcycle Mecca, the Southern Hemisphere’s leading classic motorcycle museum was the place to be.

(Outside of the racing, of course!)

Between the usual 300+ examples of gleaming classic bike perfection, temporary exhibit The Evolution of Japanese Motorcycles, live entertainment and an epic all-you-can-eat Biker’s Breakfast at Meccaspresso, we were thrilled to welcome so many guests from up and down the country.

North Canterbury man Andrew Marshall was one of the first through the doors at Classic Motorcycle Mecca on Thursday. For anybody who was thinking about visiting the Invercargill bike museum, he had some straight-forward advice.

“You’ve got to come in here and do it. Where else can you see this sort of thing in the country? It’s definitely impressive.”

Meanwhile, self-described ‘petrolheads’ Dennis Roderick and Jane Black, from the Kapiti Coast, said visiting both Classic Motorcycle Mecca and Bill Richardson Transport World were top of their to-do list during their time in Invercargill.

“It’s been beyond our wildest imagination – the sheer size, the restorations, the attention to detail. It’s world-class, it really is,” Roderick said.

“We’ll be telling everybody, ‘come down here’,” Black said. “It’s blown us away.”
